About Renn Spence
Renn was born and raised in Edmonton, and attended the University of Alberta for his undergraduate degree and for law school.
Renn has been practicing primarily in the area of family law since graduating from law school in 2015. Renn has experience representing clients at the Alberta Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench, and the Alberta Court of Appeal on matters involving a wide variety of family issues including parenting, child support, spousal support, and family property division. Renn has also prepared prenuptial, postnuptial, and separation agreements, and negotiated many settlements outside of the court process.
Collaborative Family Law and Mediation
In addition to a regular litigation-based practice, Renn is also a Registered Collaborative Family Law Lawyer and mediator, that regularly assists clients in the Collaborative Family Law Process. The Collaborative Family Law Process involves parties committing to try and resolve their issues outside of the courtroom and requires the parties to engage in collectively producing resolutions tailored to their specific situation.
Commitment to Continuing Education
Renn is committed to continuing his legal education and training, and has attended a number of LESA programs including: Pensions in Family Law, Questioning, and Family Agreement Preparation. Renn also monitors recent decisions from the courts in Alberta and across Canada to ensure he can provide his clients specific advice based on up-to-date information about how the courts are applying the law. Renn also regularly reviews commentary offered by other lawyers and experts on the developments in family law, and the law in general.
